Nelson Mandela was a great man. He was the best President that South Africa ever had. Nelson Mandela was in prison for 30 years. The amazing part is when he was released from prison he was ready to forgive his jailers. Not too many if any of us would be too keen on  this. How does one forgive the people that were the main cause of their suffering. It could not have been easy for him to do this. He set aside his own personal feelings for the sake of his country. That was a great sacrifice on his part. When he was elected President of South Africa everything changed. The apartheid mentality that once ruled the land was abolished. The black South Africans were no longer separate from the white South Africans but equal with the same rights. This was a great day for the black South Africans. After surviving years of oppession they were finally free.

 

Freedom is a beautiful word, but it has such a deeper meaning with a powerful message. Freedom can bring the strongest men to their knees crying tears of joy. Freedom can give you hope for a brighter future. Freedom can make the impossible possible. To have freedom is a right that should not be taken for granted.

 

America is known as land of the free and home of the brave. Many immigrants come to America in hopes of experiencing a better life. They want to taste freedom. Once they get a taste they never want to stop partaking of the sweet feast of freedom. Nelson Mandela understood better than anyone just how good it is to be free. He united his nation of South Africa. There is no sight more beautiful than when a nation can come together.
